We just received a clarification from the NFHS/NJSIAA regarding religious/medical alert jewelry.
The rules were not clear regarding a necklace that is holding a pendant and whether it would need to be taped down as well as the pendant itself.
Here is the statement we have received:
” the coach must make sure the necklace is taped down as well and should be under the uniform. I realize that there are times that the chain may be visible but as long as it does not “fly around” and/or come outside of the uniform then all is good. If it does, then the chain will have to be removed, and the religious medal/pendant can still be taped to the body under the uniform.
Taping over a bracelet or other religious item that is not concealed by the uniform is appropriate as well. “
